Simple Security Tips to Protect Your Home

Some simple inexpensive steps that you can take to protect your home.
DOORS
â–ª Use a solid core or metal door for all entrance points
â–ª Use a quality, heavy-duty, deadbolt lock with a one-inch throw bolt
â–ª Use a heavy-duty, four-screw, strike plate with 3-inch screws to penetrate into a wooden door frame
SLIDING GLASS DOORS & WINDOWS
â–ª Use a secondary blocking device on all sliding glass doors and windows.
â–ª Use anti-lift devices such as through-the-door pins or upper track screws
â–ª Use highly visible alarm decals
BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR
â–ª Agree to watch out for each other’s home
â–ª While on vacation, pick up newspapers, mail, etc
â–ª Offer to park your car in their driveway
â–ª Return the favor and stay in touch
LIGHTING
â–ª Use interior light timers to establish a pattern of occupancy
â–ª Exterior lighting should allow 100 foot visibility
â–ª Use good lighting along the pathway and at your door
â–ª Use light timers or photo-cells to turn on/off lights automatically
â–ª Use infra-red motion sensor lights on the rear of single family homes
