Video Surveillance To Reduce Liability

Video surveillance is an area of business security that has become quite popular over the past few years. Businesses are choosing to install expensive security systems to insure they are not victims of criminal activity. Not only do some businesses utilize video surveillance to protect their products, but many also use video surveillance to reduce liability.
Various businesses have different concerns when it comes to liability, depending on the industry. One of the most popular industries engaging in video surveillance is the retail business. While some would think retail stores only use security cameras for theft purposes, the opposite is true. Retail stores are beginning to use security cameras to ensure they’re not being wrongfully accused or even sued. In today’s “world of lawsuits” many retail stores are undeserving victims.
For example, a con artist may claim to slip and fall on a retail store’s floor due to a spill. Without proper proof, the con artist customer may take out a lawsuit against the store for a large sum of money. However, with video surveillance in place the store may be able to prove they weren’t at fault. Perhaps the con artist poured water on the floor himself before throwing himself to the ground, in hopes of obtaining money in a criminal manner.
Another business using video surveillance to reduce liability is the day care industry. Many parents are often quite nervous leaving their children at a day care and sometimes rightfully so. However, to ensure they know what’s going on in each classroom (at all times) daycares are beginning to use ongoing video streams. Parents feel more comfortable and day cares can avoid unreasonable abuse claims.
