CCTV: The History And Uses In Crime Prevention And Detection

April 25th, 2007 by Brad

CCTV, which stands for closed-circuit television is a way in which video cameras are used to transmit a signal to a certain limited set of monitors. It is not the same thing as broadcast television because the signal is not openly transmitted. It may, however, make use of point to point links.

CCTV is often used as a means of surveillance in areas where security is necessary. Casinos, banks, airports, jewelry stores and military installations are just a few of the places that make use of CCTV.

Privacy issues sometimes arise but CCTV is also used more often in public places. These cameras are often used now in shopping malls, underground parking garages, bars, restaurants and specialty shops.

Industrial plants have found that the use of CCTV equipment can help with the observation of places that are more remote or not comfortable for people. In these instances CCTV cameras can be employed from a control room and certain processes can still be observed.

The use of CCTV cameras in industrial processes is sometimes required by law and sometimes it is not. There are times when industrial processes are dangerous but they can be monitored by CCTV instead of by human beings.

CCTV can operate as a system that runs continuously or only when needed to monitor a particular situation. This is another aspect of CCTV that is useful.

CCTV is also used for the detection and prevention of crime. At one time is was used mostly by banks as a way to increase security and prevent robberies. Now it is easy to use and inexpensive as well, so CCTV is used in many other places. CCTV is used for home security and also for surveillance purposes.

The prosecution of crimes is an area that has been helped with the use of CCTV cameras. Crimes have been solved because the criminals have been caught on tape. Several murder cases have been brought to trial because of these cameras. CCTV cameras have been instrumental in bombing situations and they are also used to track the movement of children who have gone missing.

These cameras and systems can be helpful in the subway where operators of the machinery can’t always see everything that is going on. The same thing is true for those who operate amusement park rides.

CCTV has many uses and is especially essential when surveillance is needed or safety is a concern.

Video Surveillance: Reasons To Watch Your Partner - Part Two

April 22nd, 2007 by Brad

Yes, there are times when it may be appropriate to keep your eye on a partner through the means of video surveillance. In Part One of this article we discussed the times when it was not legitimate or healthy to spy on your partner. In Part Two we will talk about the times when it may be legitimate and healthy as well.

Some people would never even consider the use of video surveillance to keep track of a partner. Maybe these are people who are totally unaware of inappropriate actions on the part of the person they live with.

Other people may have suspicions and doubts and have tried talking to their partner with no results. These people just know that something is not right and even after confronting their partner feel that something is really wrong.

When you have tried everything else and you are afraid that your relationship involves a cheating partner, video surveillance is one choice you have. You can hire someone to do the surveillance for you or buy the equipment and take on the job yourself. It is often better to hire someone else if you can afford it.

Secrets are not helpful in a relationship. When you are seeing the signs of cheating and you know that your relationship is headed in the wrong direction, it may be time to take action. Video surveillance can help you discover some of the secrets and give you a chance to get out from under the lies.

Maybe you are sure that your partner is cheating and this is not the first time. You are tired of the infidelity and ready to move on. The actual evidence that video surveillance can provide may give you the determination and strength to call it quits once and for all.

If you are pretty sure your partner is cheating, are you willing to risk the medical possibilities because of his or her behavior? There are all kinds of diseases that can be transmitted and some of them are deadly and can be passed on to your children.

Video surveillance is not for the faint of heart. If you do not want to know the truth or if you are not ready to face the possibility of a cheating partner, think twice. This type of evidence is often irrefutable and may lead to the end of your relationship. Of course if the relationship is built on secrets and lies maybe the best thing you can do is to uncover the truth and move on.

Video Surveillance: Reasons To Watch Your Partner - Part One

April 19th, 2007 by Brad

Video surveillance is used for many reasons. It can be used for security purposes and to deter crimes. Video surveillance is also a way to watch a partner when you suspect cheating.

Some people have cheating partners and they never have a clue that something is amiss. Others may be overly reactive and think something is going on when there is absolutely no reason to be concerned. Still others just have a feeling that something is different with the relationship or have been in a situation before that involved a cheating partner.

There are other instances when a partner may want to use video surveillance as a way to track the movements of the person they are in a relationship with. They may suspect child abuse or neglect. The possibility of drug use is sometimes the reason.

Whatever the situation, there are times when video surveillance is used as a tool to watch a partner. In the case of someone who suspects cheating, there are legitimate reasons for using video surveillance and other reasons that are not so legitimate or healthy.

The remainder of this article will deal with reasons that are not as legitimate or healthy. Part two of this article will give you some legitimate reasons to use video surveillance to watch a partner.

One reason to use video surveillance to watch a partner is because you are paranoid. Even though you have absolutely no reason to believe your partner is having an affair, you have a problem with trust. Instead of spending the time and money for video surveillance you might want to consider counseling.

A second reason to use video surveillance to watch a partner that borders on not being legitimate is that you are using this as a way to keep track of a partner who seems to be moving away from you. This can be a type of game and something that keeps you connected to your partner. First of all, talk to your partner. Once again, it may not hurt to seek the advise of a counselor.

One final reason to use video surveillance in a way that is not healthy is to convince yourself that you want to know the truth. You are telling yourself that if you can just catch your partner cheating, as you suspect, you will know the truth and be able to get the problem out in the open. O.K… You can certainly feed yourself this baloney but if you are really looking for the truth, start by talking to your partner about your fears before you resort to spying on him or her.

The Advantages Of Using A Digital Security System

April 15th, 2007 by Brad

Compare a digital security system over a conventional system and you will find that there are many advantages.

When you are using a digital security system you will be able to replace the monitor, time-lapse recorder and switching unit with one centralized system. This system can then be accessed and controlled from several locations.

A digital security system allows the user to retrieve the video very quickly. There is no longer a need to search through hours of tape to find the desired image.

Another advantage of a digital security system is that it can be set to record when motion or other pre-defined events are detected. The video is then compressed and stored to a PC’s hard drive.

The quality of the images recorded by a digital security system is high and this helps with image and evidence recognition. Digital security videos can be enhanced easily and copied many times without any negative change in the original quality.

Analog systems are often affected by noise. This is not an issue when a digital security system is used.

Digital security systems use digital storage media that has an almost unlimited lifetime. Analog systems use tapes that have to be replaced quite often.

Digital security systems can be used to archive relevant information to HDD, FDD, DVD, or CD-R. This allows the user many different choices.

There is very little maintenance required with a digital security system. This saves time and money.

A digital security system can be set to record by a schedule such as date or time, smart mode detection or alarm activation. These options provide various choices depending on needs.

The advantages to using a digital security system are many.

An Explanation Of CCTV

April 11th, 2007 by Brad

The letters CCTV stand for Close Circuit Television. CCTV security is used for surveillance purposes and involves the use of one or more cameras.

All kinds of businesses, schools and organizations use CCTV for security reasons. These cameras were first designed to increase bank security. The first CCTV security systems had low-definition cameras and they were crude. They only recorded in black and white and they were not even able to zoom or pan.

The CCTV security cameras that are being made and developed now are quite sophisticated and technologically advanced. Another new feature of these cameras is the size. The new CCTV security cameras are sleek and much smaller than the older models.

You will find that the newer CCTV security cameras produce really sharp color images that are of high quality. They also have motion sensors that can track movement. These CCTV security cameras have the ability to pick out a person in a crowd and lock on them. This enables the person to be tracked.

CCTV security cameras are used to discourage and deter crime. Suspects and events can be identified and monitored which makes it easier to detect and prosecute those who commit crimes.

Traffic is now being monitored with the use of CCTV security cameras. The cameras are installed and set to take pictures of license plates. This technology is combined with radar and speeds are recorded and pictures are taken. Traffic violators are then sent tickets.

CCTV security cameras come in many sizes and shapes and can be installed almost anywhere. At some point the CCTV security system will be an entirely computerized monitoring system. At that time a CCTV operator will not be needed.

CCTV security cameras are becoming more advanced all the time.

Digital Security Needs

April 2nd, 2007 by Brad

What are the things you should look for in a digital security system? There are several things to consider before you make a decision.

You need to decide about the picture quality. Screen resolution, compression format, file size and color depth are considerations also but what you should really think about is the subjective video quality.

For some applications the file size is not really very important. Since many DVRs are used in closed systems, either the kind that can stand alone or on their own dedicated networks, The file size is a consideration when you need to move files around on a network and have limited network bandwidth availability. If the DVR is used on a private network it is not an issue but if you are sharing an LAN you may need to think about this.

File size does matter in your digital security system when you start calculating the data storage requirements so that you can determine the number of hard drives you will need. The size of your files also matter if you are using your digital security system to record high activity cameras for long periods of time.

You should think about the platform you will be using with your digital security system. Some are more user-friendly than others and you can find models that are less expensive, smaller and more reliable.

It may be important to implement a digital security system that comes with a good support system. There may be times when you will need the help of a support person in the middle of the night.

Think seriously about your digital security needs.
